Lewisham Homes resident Janet Kitchen has been shortlisted for Tenant of the Year, while youth programme Brighter Futures has been shortlisted for Best Practice in Youth Involvement. The awards, held by TPAS, give recognition to tenants and projects that go the extra mile to make their community a safer and more desirable place to live.

Tenant of the Year nominee Janet Kitchen has been involved with Lewisham Homes since 2007 and has contributed greatly to the improvement of services, as well as increasing resident involvement. Janet has enthusiastically represented tenants across a range of roles, recently leading the development and presentation of the Residents’ Business Plan to the Lewisham Homes Board.

Janet commented, “I’m very proud. I like to get on with the community and help others when I can. I have a great involvement with Lewisham homes and I really enjoy it because I make friends across the borough. I’ve never won anything before and it will be a great privilege and tribute if I do.”

Also shortlisted for an award is the Brighter Futures Project, which encourages young tenants to affect positive change in their community. Led by Lewisham Homes in partnership with Riverside Youth Club the project supports young people by providing them with the tools and expertise to make a positive difference in their community.

Sue Asquith, Community Involvement Manager says “We are delighted to receive recognition from TPAS for these achievements. Both Janet and our Brighter Futures programme have had a real impact on the community and their nomination is well deserved.”

The winners of the Southern region will be announced at the TPAS Awards on Friday 6 May at the Grand Connaught Rooms, London. The winner will go on to compete at national level for the overall UK Award.
