julia with apprenticeResidents have been given the chance to attend our monthly work clubs to help with interview skills, CV writing and job searches and also to gain experience through work placements.

As well as the training and development opportunities, Lewisham Homes has provided 19 apprenticeships for local residents under the age of 24, as part of Lewisham Council’s Apprenticeship Scheme. In addition to this, Breyer Group and MITIE have also taken 11 apprentices into their organisations in the fields of decorating, carpentry and plumbing.

Cllr Susan Wise cabinet member for Housing said “The Major Works programme goes much wider than improvements to kitchens and bathrooms. Both contractors are committed to delivering a programme of community investment to ensure wider benefits for residents. It is excellent to see the positive impact this is having, giving real work experience and opportunities to our local young people.”

New apprentice plumber Adam Maynard is excited about the opportunity MITIE has given him, saying “I’ve wanted to be a plumber since secondary school so this was the ideal opportunity for me to learn the skills of the trade. In the future, I hope to run my own plumbing business.”
