Do you know how to keep accounts? Would you be available for two hours a month? The Sydenham & Forest Hill Youth Forum are looking for a replacement treasurer. They have a smart accounts system using excel but are flexible in how it looks (the main thing is that you as a treasurer use a system you are happy with). Their main role is to network agencies who work with youth, run forum meetings including schools, police, youth clubs, councillors, and youth services such as health, homeless youth and young carers. You do not have to attend these forum meetings but your role would include attending three Management Committee meetings a year.
They also run The Amazing Fund-raising Group, a group of teens who have the principle task of getting locals to sign up to donating £2 per month (currently bringing in a £31pcm) using fun and innovative ways (currently preparing pop-up theatre performances). This is part of their new and emerging fundraising strategy asking locals to donate small regular amounts and see this reinvested locally, and evidenced on their website. They have an online map advertising their progress alongside other opportunities, see www.sfhyouthforum.org.uk.
They are a small organisation, have one part-time staff member on payroll sourced-out to VAL (Voluntary Action Lewisham) and turn over between £10-£15k per year. Being treasurer is a straightforward role for anyone excel savvy or who owns a little common sense. You would be asked to keep the accounts up-to-date by inputting expenditure based on meeting me once a month (you can come here, or they can come to your house and you can work from home!). You would sign a few cheques once a month to pay HMRC. You would begin after being voted in at their next meeting. Before that, you would meet the leaving treasurer, see the accounts system and hopefully sign up. The best thing is they have a book keeper who is happy to help out too!
