On Saturday 21 November, Dacres Estate celebrated the opening of Rainbows Play Area. Costing £58,000, the development was funded through Lewisham Homes’ Resident Led Programme which gives residents the opportunity to apply for a share of £500,000 to improve their communities and environments.
When last year’s applications went in, Debbie Lester and Marion Richardson, Chair and Vice-Chair of Dacres Estate Tenants’ and Residents’ Association, were keen to put forward a proposal. They were hoping that the project would create both a play area and a welcoming space to bring people together and help neighbours to get to know each other. Debbie and Marion were involved throughout the process from planning to design and then choosing the outdoor furniture.
Debbie said, “Things have gone really well, Lewisham Homes and Visible Changes (contractor) were great and we were consulted throughout the process. The play area looks fantastic, it has really brightened up a dull area and puts a smile on my face as I walk by”.
