Digital TV switchover

From 4 April 2012 the old analogue TV signal will cease broadcasting. Don’t worry it’s easy to switch to Digital TV.

Digital UKThere are a number of ways in which you can easily receive digital TV

• Through an aerial (Freeview).
• Through a satellite connection via Sky (subscription) or Freesat.
• Through an aerial and your phone line.
• Through a cable television provider.

Most televisions can easily receive digital TV with a set top box. You may be eligible for support to convert one television in your home to digital through the government ‘switchover scheme’.

Am I set to receive Digital TV?

In the majority of our properties, we have installed communal aerial systems also known as an IRS. This will give you a Freeview, digital satellite and FM Radio signal. If you watch tv through Sky, Freesat, Freeview or cable tv, then you do not need to do anything further.

If not, you can purchase a digital Freeview box from about £20 and simply connect this to the IRS system.

I do not have a communal aerial system. What should I do?

In smaller blocks and houses we do not install aerial systems so you will need to ensure you are set to go digital. We will be writing to all properties in December 2011 that do not have a communal aerial system to tell you what your options are.

In your tenancy or lease, it states that you cannot place a satellite or external aerial on the outside of your property but you will be able to receive digital TV through:

• Freeview and Top up TV through an internal aerial.
• Freeview and broadband with BT Vision.
• Cable TV (Virgin Media) through an external provider.

Digital boxes start from as little as £20. Depending on your circumstances you could get support from the governments ‘Switch over help scheme’. They are writing to all households in the UK that are eligible for help.
