Fire safety
How you can keep you and your family safe

Fire safety is extremely important to Lewisham Homes and our residents. Please help us minimise the risk of fires starting and follow this advice:
Do
Keep corridors and staircases clear. In the event of a fire, it is essential that exit routes are free from items that could pose a potential hazard.
Ensure fire doors and store cupboards leading onto common areas are always kept shut.

Don’t
Attach security grilles to your door. If a fire starts in your block then the security grille could prevent you leaving the property as quickly as you should.
Remove door closes. Keeping doors closed is one of the simplest ways to help to contain a fire.
Changing the batteries in your smoke detector takes minutes and could save your life.
Did you know?
- You are twice as likely to die in a house fire if you don’t have a working smoke alarm;
- three breaths of smoke could knock you out;
- one in four smoke alarms don’t work - usually because
- of the batteries; and
- one minute of breathing house fire smoke can kill a child
