If you are struggling to pay your rent, it is important that you contact us straightaway and we will do all we can to help. Four things you can do:
1. Contact Lewisham Plus Credit Union (LPCU)
Owned and run by its members on behalf of its members, credit unions can help you take control of your money by encouraging you to save what you can and borrow only what you can afford to repay. To join LPCU you must live or work (paid or voluntary) in the London Borough of Lewisham or the South London postcodes SE19, SE20, SE26, BR1 or BR3. Some of the benefits of joining LPCU are:
- Even if you have been unable to open a high street bank account in the past, you may still be able to open a Credit Union Current Account (CUCA).
- Credit Unions are a safe and easy way to save. They often pay an annual dividend to their members on their savings.
- You may be able to borrow money, often at a lower interest rate to high street banks.
- Free life insurance.
Visit the LPCU website for more information, or contact our Rent team for advice.
