It comes as a result of the Hazel Grove Tenants and Residents’ Association which asked local families about what they wanted to see in a new play area. Working with Lewisham Homes, they then developed a plan and made a successful bid for £45,000 to refurbish the area.
Mayor of Lewisham Sir Steve Bullock, officially opened the play area. Sir Steve said: “The Grove is a fantastic facility that will provide lots of fun and exciting times for all users.
“The determination of residents to create a communal space where children and young people can engage in positive play is a shining example of how well communities work together.”
Lewisham Homes Chief Executive Andrew Potter said: “This is the result of the great partnership between Lewisham Homes, the Council and our residents. It shows what can be achieved when we work together.”
Facilities include a refurbished games area, community space with play equipment made from natural materials, a picnic area and a children’s garden.
