The Council bid for £145 million from Central Government to improve housing to the decent homes standard. Lewisham Homes is responsible for managing housing services on behalf of the Council and Central Government will not give us this money until we prove to the Audit Commission that we are providing a good or two star service to our residents.
Once we achieve this in an Audit Commission inspection in 2010, we will gain access to the funding and works will be programmed to start. At this stage we cannot tell you when works for your home will commence, but we will keep you informed through our regular newsletters.
We carried out a stock condition survey last year. This involved looking at the outside of all our properties and inside a small number of tenants homes. The purpose was to assess what work is needed to put the external parts of the properties into good
condition, and what internal work is needed for tenant’s properties.
We want to make our estates more desirable places to live and to ensure that all tenanted homes have modern internal fittings. The survey shows that we will need to
carry out a major programme of work to achieve this. The programme will be dependant on us achieving a two-star inspection rating from the Audit Commission in 2010. Over coming months we will be consulting you about your improvement priorities.
