Lewisham Homes is hosting a five-a-side football tournament, market and information day next week at Honor Oak Estate as part of a brand new proactive approach to tackling antisocial behaviour.
Football heats start on Monday 18 February and continue throughout the week. The Grand Final will be held at Pitch 2000 on Friday 22 February with the Young Mayor Justin Cole attending to present the winning teams with their trophies.
“It’s really great to be part of this event and to help young people tackle the issue of antisocial behaviour. I know that as a young person this is an issue I face on a regular basis and see this event as a positive way for us to discuss the issue in an open forum whilst having fun,” Justin said.
The ‘Week of Action’ event coincides with Lewisham Homes Antisocial Behaviour Team launch, there are now 12 staff members dedicated to improving Lewisham estates making them better and safer places to live. They will work alongside Caretaking staff to carry out proactive work on estates.
Environmental Services Manager Mark Leahy said, “This is a unique opportunity for Lewisham Homes, by having these teams working together we can not only improve safety on estates and make environmental improvements, we can inspire residents to get involved.”
Councillor Crada, Champion for Community Safety, who will be attending the event, said: “We want to encourage more residents to work with us to tackle the issue of antisocial behaviour and to help make the borough safer, cleaner and more secure. This is also a great opportunity for residents to voice their opinions about how antisocial behaviour can be stopped and to seek advice about what to do if it occurs.”
This event is run by Lewisham Homes in partnership with Lewisham Council’s Antisocial Behaviour Team and Warden Services, Telegraph Hill Safer Neighbourhood Team, Lewisham Youth Services and Family Mosaic.
