Antisocial behaviour

Your questions answered about Antisocial behaviour.

Q: What is antisocial behaviour?

A: Anti-social behaviour is any aggressive, intimidating or destructive activity that damages or destroys another person's quality of life.

Examples of antisocial behaviour include noise nuisance, intimidation and harassment, dog fouling, aggressive and threatening language and behaviour, violence against people and property and hate behaviour that targets members of identified groups.

Q: Who can I report antisocial behaviour to?

A: We have an ASB team whom you can report all instances of antisocial behaviour to.

You can call the team on freephone 0800 028 2 028 - press 4 (may be cheaper to call 020 8613 4000 from mobile), fill in a form online or you can also visit any of our housing offices to discuss any incidents. We have private interview rooms where you can discuss the issue in confidence.

If you can, please record any details of when the incidents take place including things such as times, dates and what happened. We can send diary sheets to you to record this information. This is important as this information can be used as evidence.

Outside of office hours you can report antisocial behaviour by calling 0800 028 2028 - Press 2 to make a report (It may be cheaper to call 020 8613 400 from a mobile).

Our first priority is to find out if the call is an emergency and whether or not the Police are needed. If the case is an emergency, we will advise you to contact the Police and ensure that a case is logged for the ASB team to follow up on. We will work closely with the Police and other support agencies.

Where the case is not an emergency, we will take down all the details of the case and ensure it is logged so that the ASB team have all the information they need to investigate your report.

Q: My neighbour often plays loud music late at night. Can you help?

A: Yes. Please call the ASB Team on freephone 0800 028 2 028 - press 4 (may be cheaper to call 020 8613 4000 from mobile) or email them at asb@lewishamhomes.org.uk. Please give details of where the noise is coming from and we would advise you to keep a diary making a note of when the incidents take place.

We can also contact the Council’s Environmental Enforcement team asking them to investigate the noise and witness the noise incident. The Environmental Enforcement team will then contact the resident and resolve the situation by persuading them to keep the noise down. Your call will be treated in confidence.

You can call the Enviromental Enforcement team outside of office hours. The service runs as follows:

  • weekday evening service 7pm-12midnight Monday to Thursday and
  • a weekend night time service 7pm-3am Friday to Sunday.

Please call and leave a message with the Council switchboard on 020 8314 6000. You will be called back within 30 minutes and a visit will be made within 45 minutes if necessary.
