Your questions answered about Community Involvement.

Q: How can I get involved with Lewisham Homes?

A: We have 27 different options so you can choose how and where you would like to get involved. We call these our involvement opportunities.

All of our involvement opportunities are listed in the Residents' Compact, a document that was written in partnership with residents, for residents. They are also outlined in the Get Involved section of this website. For example, you can take part in mystery shopping, estate inspections, focus groups, attend area panel meetings, and much more.

To get involved, simply all us today on 020 8613 7660 or email getinvolved@lewishamhomes.org.ukWe can send you a copy of the Residents' Compact and discuss any involvement opportunities that would suit you, and we'll direct you from there. It's that easy!

Q: How do I start a Tenant and Residents Association (TRA) on my estate?

A: Being part of a TRA is one of 27 ways you can get involved with Lewisham Homes. If you or your neighbours are interested in starting a TRA on your estate then the first stage is to contact the Community Involvement team. We’ll be there to answer any questions that you may have and explain the process of setting up the TRA. We’ll also be there to support you and your neighbours through the process and explain how long it takes for your TRA to become official.

Q: What happens if there aren’t enough people to set up a TRA?

A: We’ll continue to help you and other residents to set up a TRA in the area up to three times and give you advice on other ways to reach residents. If there is not sufficient interest in setting up a TRA, then don’t despair, there are lots of other ways that you can get involved and help your local area. Speak to the Community Involvement team today to find out about all our involvement opportunities.

Q: What is the Lewisham Tenants Fund?

A: In 1992 tenants in Lewisham voted to pay part of their rent (13p a week) into a tenants fund to aid tenant participation in the borough. The fund provides grants to accredited Tenant and Resident Associations, supports training courses for residents and pays for tenants to attend conferences and network with national tenant agencies in the UK. We work closely with the tenants fund to support our events and resident training as well as fund other involvement activities. To find out more visit the Lewisham Tenants Fund website http://www.l-t-f.co.uk/, email administrator@l-t-f.co.uk or call 020 7635 9200.

Q: I have children and don’t live near public transport. Can I still be involved?

A: We want every resident to have the opportunity to get involved but we understand that sometimes other commitments can make it hard to say yes to working with us. That’s why if you live in an area where a Tenants and Residents Association (TRA) is active, you can claim back your travel costs and childcare or carer costs from your TRA Treasurer. If you don’t have a TRA in your area, then Lewisham Homes can reimburse your costs for attending our events. Contact the Community Involvement team on 020 8613 7660 or email getinvolved@lewishamhomes.org.uk and find out how we can help you.
