Garages

There are approximately 3800 garages in the borough, 2062 of which are managed directly by Lewisham Homes and approximately 700 which are being interim managed by Lewisham Homes. It is therefore important that garages are correctly managed to ensure as much income as possible is generated from this source of revenue.

A garage project was commissioned in 1998 and a number of measures have since been introduced to improve the condition of the garage stock, to dispose of surplus sites and make rents more realistic and fair.

Garages for rent in Lewisham have different rents to reflect the demand for garages in different areas. The current banding charges are:

Band A: £7.70 + £1.35 VAT

Band B: £6.16 + £1.08 VAT

Band C1: £4.60 + £0.08 VAT

Band C2: £3.05 + £0.53 VAT

Council garages are intented for the storage of a private motor vehicle and/or personal effects. We require one weeks advance notice if you want to give up your garage.

Who is eligible?

Anyone can apply to rent a council garage but we give priority to existing council tenants. You will not be offered a garage if you have rent arrears or have received an overpayment of housing benefit.

What happens next?

Once you have completed the garage application form, you will be registered on a garage waiting list. How long you have to wait for a garage depends on the site requested and the current demand for garages.
