Moving home

When moving out, you must ensure that everyone vacates the property by 12 noon on the date your tenancy ends. Before you move out you must:

• give Lewisham Homes 28 days written notice;
• allow Lewisham Homes to inspect your property;
• have paid your rent in full;
• ensure the property is clean and tidy; and
• remove all your belongings.

You will be charged for any damage or rubbish removal costs from your property. We will inspect your property before the four weeks notice expires to allow us to specify works and note any damage.

 

Lewisham Council is responsible for the allocation of properties. If you want to move home Lewisham Council has a number of schemes available. However, like many other London boroughs, Lewisham has a shortage of homes compared with the number of people who want to move. If you would like to be on the housing register, you will need to fill in an application form. Contact your Tenancy Plus Officer for information or help filling in the application form. This is the main way to look for Council and Housing Association homes of all sizes in Lewisham. It's a partnership between the Council and the main Housing Associations in the borough. Every week (except Bank Holiday weeks) homes available to let are published in a newsletter, which is available at Housing Offices every Thursday and at www.lewishamhomesearch.org.uk.

 

This scheme helps households who want to relocate to different parts of the country where there is a surplus of housing, usually the north of England, Scotland, or Wales. Anyone on the housing list can apply. For more information contact:

Lewisham Council run a self-help scheme which assists tenants to find another tenant who would like to swap homes with them. Any tenant of the Council, a Housing Association or a Housing Co-operative can apply, though you must get the approval of Lewisham Homes before you move.

 

If you were to become a Housing Co-operative tenant, you would be expected to attend regular meetings and help make decisions on rents, repairs and other management issues. The Council has a nominations agreement with a number of Housing Co-operatives in the borough. Anyone on the housing list can apply, by indicating on the housing application form.

 

This scheme offers housing designed for older people on the coast and in the countryside, mainly in the south of England. Anyone on the housing list who is 60 years of age and over can apply. For more information contact 020 8314 9067.
