Resolving Conflict

25th November

Time: 6pm to 9pm

This evening course will look at how to manage difficult situations, using conflict as a positive tool, developing assertiveness and negotiating skills.

Chairing Skills

10th November

Time: 6pm to 9pm

This course will look at the chair’s role and how to manage meetings effectively.  It will identify the skills and qualities that you need, the range of helpful tools and tactics and how to deal with difficult situations.

Treasurer Skills

5th November

Time: 6pm to 9pm

This course will look at the role of the treasurer and will give information about the roles and responsibilities of a treasurer and give some practical ideas on how to be an effective treasurer.

Running Effective Meetings

18th November

Time: 6pm to 9pm

This course will provide you with ideas and skills to help you manage your meetings more effectively.

Involving Everyone

8th December

Time: 6pm to 9pm

This course will look at how you can develop ways of working that includes all of the community, being aware of individual needs and promoting opportunities for all.  It will also look at ways you can make your meetings and activities accessible to everyone.

Keeping your Tenants and Residents Association Active

9th December

Time: 6pm to 9pm

A course specifically aimed at helping Tenants and Residents Associations (TRAs) remain active and alive.  Come and learn how to attract new people to your group and help you think about why and what you are doing.

Secretary Skills for Meetings

16th December

Time: 6pm-9pm

This course provides an opportunity for anyone who is already or is thinking about becoming secretaries of a tenants and residents group.  It will look at the roles and responsibilities of a secretary, how to communicate effectively, producing the agenda and taking minutes.

Computers for Absolute Beginners

19th January 2009

Time: 9.30am-4.30pm

This course is suitable for any one who has not used a computer before or for very new computer users.  The course will cover the basic techniques that are needed when working with a computer.

Venue: Lewisham City Learning Centre, Crofton School, Manwood Road, SE4 1SA

Introduction to Microsoft Word

26th January 2009

Time: 9.30am-4.30pm

This course is for anyone who has never used Word, or any other Word processing application.  This course will teach you how to create, save, edit and print basic documents (letters, memos etc.) using Word.

Venue: Lewisham City Learning Centre, Crofton School, Manwood Road, SE4 1SA

Introduction to Microsoft Excel

9th February 2009

Time: 9.30am-4.30pm

This course is designed for those that have never used Excel before or for anyone who has just started using Excel.  You will learn to set up a basic spreadsheet to record data, particularly numbers, add calculations and show the data as a chart (graph).

Food Hygiene

The course will cover a number of issues around food hygiene as well as covering good food hygiene practices and how to reduce contamination.  A certificate of attendance will be issued at the end of the session.

Speedwriting

Tuesday 3rd February, 2009

Time: 9.30am – 4.30pm

By the end of the course delegates will be able to take notes and/or minutes using speedwriting techniques, thus being able to take down effectively more of what is said during meetings, ensuring more accurate notes.

Plumbing in the Home Taster Session

This is a one day course and will teach you basic plumbing skills such as changing a tap washer and  dealing with waste connections and blockages which will help you handle everyday problems around your home. (held during half term, 16th Feb – 20th Feb)

Painting and Decorating Taster Session

This one day course will give you a overview of decorating practice, equipment and materials.  (held during half term, 16th Feb – 20th Feb)

First Aid

This is a one day course that will teach you about the duties of a first aider and teach you basic first aid skills.

 

Secretary Skills

This course provides an opportunity for anyone who is already or is thinking about becoming secretaries of a tenants and residents group.  It will look at the roles and responsibilities of a secretary, how to communicate effectively, producing the agenda and taking minutes.

Intermediate Word

This course is for anyone who has used Word to create simple documents, has applied formatting and changed page settings and now wants to extend their knowledge.  You will learn to apply more complex formatting and layout options, use keyboard shortcuts to speed up your work and use Word to produce mail-shots with standard letters and mailing labels.

 

Intermediate Excel

This course is for anyone who has used Excel to set up a simple spreadsheet and is now ready to acquire more advanced skills.  In particular this course covers the use of Excel to set up a simple database.  You will learn to set up a spreadsheet model across sheets in a workbook and between workbooks and also to use some common Excel functions.  You will also learn how to manage lists in Excel.
