What falls under ASB?
How can we help?
Working in partnership with other agencies we work with residents to come up with the best solution for resolving issues on estates. There are many measures that we can use, including applying to the court for injunctions and Antisocial Behaviour Orders (ASBOs), warning letters, mediation and proactive measures to deter antisocial behaviour.
We recognise that the causes and effects of antisocial behaviour vary and can affect all members of the community, not just our tenants. We will therefore always seek to work in partnership with other agencies to ensure that all measures available are used effectively to tackle antisocial behaviour problems.
Intimidation and harassment
Threatening and abusive behaviour.
Action and support
- We can apply for an injunction to restrain or control the behaviour, or instigate possession proceedings to evict the tenant if there is an on-going problem.
Hate crime
Is any behaviour that targets someone because of their race or ethnicity, gender, age, religion, sexual orientation, disability, class or nationality.
Action and support
- We can apply for an injunction to stop someone from carrying out certain acts.
- Possession proceedings to evict a resident if there is a persistent problem.
- Cases can be referred to victim support or any other support agency.
Vandalism and environmental issues
Is any graffiti, abandoned cars, flytipping or dumping rubbish.
Action and support
- We can seek an injunction to restrain or control the behaviour or possession proceedings to evict the tenant if the problem continues.
- We can apply for an Antisocial Behaviour Order (ASBO) in some cases, such as when young people are involved in graffiti.
- We can involve the Council’s Environment and Environmental Health teams.
- Distribute warning letters
Noise nuisance
Loud parties, shouting, noise from TVs, stereos, burglar alarms and dogs barking.
Action and support
- We can apply for injunctions, possession proceedings or demoted action.
- For low level noise we can use mediation or restorative justice to reach an agreement about future behaviour.
- In the case of loud music or parties, the council’s Environmental Health Team can serve an Abate Notice or obtain a seizure order from the court.
Drug use and supply
Supplying, using or producing illegal drugs.
Action and support
- We can seek an injunction to restrain or control the behaviour, or begin possession proceedings to evict the tenant.
- If Class A drugs are found in the property we can seek police intervention to treat the property as a crack house. This will close down the property for three months.
Uncontrolled pets
Dog fouling, dogs not being kept on a leash and aggressive pets.
Action and support
- We can apply for an injunction to prevent a tenant from keeping a pet.
- The Council’s Environmental Health Team can issue a penalty notice.
- We also make sure our residents know that they must clear up after their dogs and give advice on how to control their pets.
