We understand that at times people may require additional care and support to live in their home. A persons needs may change over time, and conditions that leave a person vulnerable for a period may not be permanent, especially if the right type of support is available.
There are a number of ways we can provide a flexible service where a customer has an identified need. These services are generally for residents who are frail, elderly, or with severe physical health problems or disabilities. We will consider cases individually, and within available budgets.
We proactively collect data on our tenants vulnerability so we can tailor our services to meet their needs. We also check for vulnerability when we take action for rent arrears and Anti Social Behaviour. There are a number of ways Lewisham Homes can help vulnerable customers. We can:
- Provide arrears, welfare benefit and debt advice;
- Provide flexibility within our repairs service;
- Provide additional security measures for example for tenants experiencing hate crimes;
- Provide basic adaptations to make day to day tasks easier; and
- Decorate two rooms in the home.
We can also refer tenants to other organisations for support. We proactively work with our partner organisations to help vulnerable customers.
A plain English summary of our approach to vulnerability provides our tenants and partners with more information.
