Our Senior Independent Living Officer, Valda, recounts a heart-warming contribution to the local community from two residents of our Independent Living schemes.
Having introduced a knitting and crocheting group at our Crofton Park development, I noticed how gifted two tenants were.
One showed me a very large bed spread that she had crotcheted and the other showed me some of the cushion covers that she had made, baby hats, a cardigan and coffee table covers.
They looked very complicated, but they assured me that they were very easy and they could make a hat within hours.
Having spoken to our residents about a similar project I had previously worked on, they decided to start a project at Crofton by crocheting hats and blankets for the baby unit at Lewisham Hospital.
The hats and blankets were finished just in time for Christmas. I took the large parcel to Lewisham Hospital’s Maternity Unit. The nurses were grateful to receive them on behalf of the new mothers. They thought that it was a nice gesture, that our two helpful residents could take the time out to crotchet such pretty blankets and hats for the little ones entering the world.
Our residents said that they were glad that they could do something for the babies at their local hospital and will continue this project in 2019.
