It is traditional to organise street parties to celebrate national holidays in the UK. Have you considered hosting a Big Jubilee Lunch for your neighbours to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee?
Since The Big Lunch started in 2009, it has encouraged communities to celebrate their connections and get to know each other better. Having celebrated the first Diamond Jubilee Lunch in 2012, The Big Lunch will again bring the Jubilee celebrations to all communities in 2022 to coincide with the Platinum Jubilee.
If you don’t know where to start when organising your Big Lunch, Eden Project Communities can guide you. The site has lots of ideas and tips, from recipes and planning for the weather to organising using the NextDoor app to bring your neighbours together.
The Big Jubilee Lunch will be taking place on Sunday, 5 June. Visit The Big Lunch website and start planning your party.
Closing your road
If you want to have a party on your road, you need to apply to Lewisham Council for a temporary road closure. Applications need to be made at least six weeks before the event. You can find out more on their website.
