Residents from Comet Street in Deptford are celebrating the completion of the Comet Street Community Garden which they worked on during the nationwide lockdown.
It was built by an active group of neighbours who transformed a previously disused space, which was often a hot spot for fly-tipping, and erected colourful blue wooden planters which now house a range of flowers and plants. The group will soon be planting a variety of different herbs and vegetables to add to the current selection of greenery.
Resident Nick Wyver, one of the organisers of the project, said: “We’ve had an amazing response from the community with kids coming down to help paint, people stopping off to build and plant, and one guy revealing he runs a farm in Nigeria and volunteering to help us grow food that we can make available for anyone to come and pick.”
Our community relations team is currently in talks with Nick to see how we can support in helping to develop the space further. In the meantime we’d like to say a huge thank you and well done to all of the residents involved.
