Essential services during the Covid-19 pandemic

A message from our chief executive, Margaret Dodwell

The Covid-19 pandemic impacts us all and I wanted to let you know what we’re doing to continue to provide you with essential services following the Prime Minister’s announcement and the government’s ‘lockdown’ requirements.

Protecting your health and wellbeing, and that of our staff, is our first priority. Our office is now closed and most of our staff are working from home. We will focus on conducting services online or via telephone where possible. Some of our staff have been designated key workers and will continue to provide frontline services. Please make sure you follow social distancing guidelines, for your and their safety.

We have reviewed our service offer to residents in line with the government measures and will continue to deliver services while restrictions are in place.

Essential services update

Repairs – essential repairs only. This will include emergencies, safety works and completing some jobs already in progress. All non-essential repairs are suspended until further notice.

Cleaning – our caretaking team are continuing to work and are paying extra attention to surfaces in high use areas to ensure they are as clean as possible to help reduce the spread of Covid-19. This means we are increasing the frequency of some tasks and reducing the frequency of others.

Grounds maintenance – there will be a reduced service and this may stop completely in the near future.

ASB – we will support new high priority issues and existing cases.

Independent living – existing services are being maintained, but some services are being delivered via the telephone.

Pest control – reduced service.

Major works – stopping all planned works.

Gas, fire safety, electrical testing, lifts and water hygiene – essential servicing and repairs continue.

In line with government guidance on social distancing, Lewisham Council has decided to close all outdoor facilities such as playgrounds, while keeping parks open. We have also now closed all play areas and sports facilities to discourage people from gathering and to help stop the spread of the virus. We have also closed all communal rooms such as tenant and resident association (TRA) rooms across estates and schemes, except for access or evacuation reasons. Communal gardens and laundry rooms remain open; however, please make sure you follow social distancing guidelines when using these facilities.

We are working to prioritise services for our vulnerable residents and over the coming weeks we will look to expand our support in our communities, working with our partners.
