Wear It Out

We all wear clothing – it’s something that is tangible and relatable to people of all ages and something that marks us as who we are. But it can also be easily forgotten about and discarded.

Lewisham Homes and Make Mee Studio have joined forces to bring you a series of free conversational and creative sewing workshops where you will use creativity to reignite connections between yourself and your possessions.

The focus will be on using craft to highlight the importance of our relationship with clothing. Looking at personal attachment, memory, mindfulness and how creativity can be an antidote to the growing environmental problem of throw away fashion. You will learn new sewing and creative skills during the weekly sessions, culminating in a final exhibition to showcase your work.

You will be encouraged to work on a project for this final exhibition. This could take many avenues; working on an item of your own that you no longer wear and changing it into something new that you would wear and cherish for longer, or creating a new item of clothing or an art piece in response to the theme.

We know that not everyone will be able to take part in some elements of the sewing so we will provide support and alternative creative opportunities to ensure the project is accessible to all.

Contact the Community Relations Team on 0800 028 2028 or email getinvolved@lewishamhomes.org.uk if you would like to take part.
