The Lewisham Homes Community Relations team have been hard at work putting together a whole host of festive activities for you and your family. We’ve got things for you to make, things for you to do and competitions for you to enter (where you could win shopping vouchers). We hope you enjoy reading through the list below.
From homemade wrapping paper, to homemade mulled apple juice, we’ve found lots of easy (and cheap) things to make this festive season.
Mulled apple juice
All you need is apple juice, an orange, a cinnamon stick, some cloves and sugar. Find the recipe here.
Could you be a Star Baker? Biscuits are one of the easier things to bake, and there are 54 different festive biscuit recipes to choose from here (and this recipe doesn’t even need a food processor). Or you could save even more time and buy pre-made cookie dough.
You only need three things to make these: pre-made puff pastry, mincemeat and a muffin/cupcake baking tin! You could even skip the tin and make mince pie parcels if you like, the recipe is here.
Use them to make your own Christmas cards (there’s a useful step-by-step guide here). If you want to go all out, check out YouTube for videos with intricate designs like this. Once you’ve made your snowflakes, fold a blank A4 piece of card and stick it to the front and you’ve got a homemade Christmas card.
All you really need for this are some scissors, some card and a hole-punch. There’s a handy guide showing step-by-step instructions here.
You can be as creative as you like with this one. There are lots of different ways to decorate your own wrapping paper, if you’re a child (or just working with one!) you can find out how to make wrapping paper here and here. If you’ve got more peace and quiet you can have a go at these designs. (Pro tip: you can get rolls of brown paper for £1 at Wilko).
These can be as simple or as intricate as you want. You can buy some baubles and paint them yourself or you could dry oranges and hang them around your home. (You can find instructions on how to do that here).

There are so many things you can do at this time of year that it can sometimes be overwhelming. We’ve got you covered with all sorts of activities you can do from writing to Father Christmas to a Lewisham Homes Winter Trail.
Lewisham Winter Trail
This year we’re running a Lewisham Homes Winter Trail – take a photo of yourself at each of the six locations by 19 December and you’ll be entered into our prize draw to win £30 of Love2Shop vouchers. More info here.
Write a letter to Father Christmas
This year, Lewisham Homes has reached an agreement with Father Christmas to pass on letters that get sent to us for his attention. If you know someone who would like to write to Father Christmas, they can do so without needing a stamp if they write to: Father Christmas, c/o Lewisham Homes, FREEPOST, SE6 4RU.
Go for a winter’s walk in the woods
We’re lucky to have lots of woodland in Lewisham, not to mention a significant part of the Green Chain – a 50-mile trail of fields, parks and woodlands across South East London. Find out more about the Green Chain here.
Festive food exchange
Do you have something you always cook at this time of year? Your neighbours probably do too! If you fancy trying something new, why not organise a (Covid-secure) festive food exchange and share dishes with your community.
Watch a festive film
Festive films will be filling up channels and streaming services across December. Whatever genre you’re after, there’ll be something to watch over the next few weeks. Or, cut out the middleman and get a DVD.
Play festive charades
Everyone writes down five festive characters or people on pieces of paper and then takes it in turns to act them out! Here are some ideas to get you started.
Play festive “Who/What Am I?”
All you need for this are some pens and some post-it notes! (Never played it before? Click here for the key info).
Track Father Christmas and play educational games
Click here for Google’s webpage that has lots of activities and games available for all of December, as well as the all-important tracker.
Watch Father Christmas’s reindeer
Live via webcam here.
Many people mark the festive season by giving back to those who are less fortunate. This year we’ve compiled “12 Days of Volunteering”, to suggest a variety of ways to give your time back to the local community. We’re also encouraging residents to support two local charitable causes: KGEB Community Supermarket and Lewisham Local’s “Warmer Together” programme.
Volunteer your time for others
Lewisham Homes is running a “12 Days of Volunteering” campaign.
From community gardens to digital projects, your spare hours could make all the difference. Find out more here.
Donate to charity
Lewisham Homes is supporting two local charitable causes:
KGEB Community Supermarket
Every week the KGEB team provide food, drink and other essentials to residents struggling to make ends meet in Sydenham. Donate here.
Warmer Together – Lewisham Local
Almost 1 in 5 households in Lewisham cannot afford to heat their homes during winter. Lewisham Local is fundraising to address this. Donate here.
If you decide to do any of the activities listed here – please do send us your photos, we’d love to see them and we will do our best to share them on our social media channels. Just email firstname.lastname@example.org.
