Gas Safety Week 2020

As our residents’ safety remains our top priority, we are proud to once again pledge our support in Gas Safety Week (14 – 22 September), now in its tenth year.

The annual Gas Safety Week  sees organisations from across the UK working together to raise awareness of the dangers of poorly maintained gas appliances, which can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning.

Keep up-to-date with Gas Safe Register’s updates and advice throughout Gas Safety Week by following @GasSafeRegister on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, searching #GSW20 or by visiting their website.  We also recommend looking at the top tips page for advice on how to keep you and your family gas safe.

As this year marks the tenth anniversary of Gas Safety Week in 2020, a group of MPs have recorded a video to highlight the importance gas safety, which you can watch below:

Lewisham Homes annual gas safety checks

We understand that in these challenging times you may have concerns with allowing access, however we can assure our residents that our staff follow government safety advice and adhere to strict social distancing guidelines, hygiene procedures and will be equipped with appropriate PPE. We can confirm our domestic gas contractor (QHS) have met all Covid-19 health and safety requirements, and during lockdown we maintained 99% completion of gas safety checks.

Your annual gas safety check is to ensure that all gas appliances are operating as per manufacturer’s specification. The checks include:

  • Checking the gas pressure at the gas meter and gas appliances (low pressure can result in poor performance)
  • Testing and checking all flues to ensure all joints are sealed correctly to avoid possible carbon monoxide leakage
  • Visual inspection of all gas appliances to check for any signs of wear or leakage, which may result in premature failure

It is important to remember that a neglected gas appliance could result in gas escapes, fire and explosions, and a serious risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

If your gas service is due please contact our service provider QHS on 01494 795000 or 0800 028 2 028

We also encourage our leaseholders to arrange their own gas safety checks annually to ensure their home remains safe.
