Last year, the government introduced the Green Homes Grant which offers funding for homeowners and landlords to add energy efficient improvements to their properties, in a bid to reduce fuel costs and a drive towards sustainability.
The initiative covers two-thirds of the cost of eligible works for landlords, with a government contribution of up to £5,000 per property.
At Lewisham Homes, we are delighted to confirm that following consultations with our partners at Lewisham Council, we have been allocated a total of £825,000 from the grant towards energy efficiency improvements, enabling us to carry out works to residents’ homes, which will help them save money on their energy bills.
The funding will allow us to roll out improvements at 165 properties which we have identified will benefit from the works in this first phase of the grant.
In this first round of works utilising the Green Homes Grant, we will be installing wall insulation designed to help reduce our residents’ heating bills and improve thermal performance, creating greener, more sustainable and environmentally friendly homes.
This is the first time we will be carrying out works of this nature, and we will initially pilot this on our void properties – homes which have recently become vacant – to avoid disruption to residents where we can. We will be using trusted and verified contractors for these works, who have been fully approved by the government.
Once we have completed this phase, we will apply for further funding as we map out other energy efficiency improvements to more of our homes.
Lewisham Homes currently can only apply for the grant as a landlord for our tenanted properties. If you are a leaseholder and your home could benefit from energy efficient improvements, you can apply for the Green Homes Grant yourself by visiting gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-the-green-homes-grant-scheme.
If you, or someone in your household, receives certain benefits you may be eligible for a voucher covering 100% of the cost.
