Our Independent Living jubilee party on 26 May was a joy for all involved – it’s the first event we’ve been able to hold for residents for our sheltered housing schemes since before the pandemic.
We brought together residents from all our sheltered schemes and put on a packed programme of entertainment. Proceeding were opened with a welcome from our board chair Ainsley Forbes, before going to an open mic session, with residents entertaining us all with songs and poetry.
There was dancing, and a DJ played music while residents ate a picnic lunch. This was followed by a Jubilee themed quiz and a raffle with a variety of prizes donated by staff and contractors.
Emma Mills, the head of Lewisham Homes’ independent living service, said:
‘My team worked incredibly hard over the last few months to organise this party for our sheltered housing residents to celebrate the Queens Platinum Jubilee at St Laurence’s Church Hall in Catford.
‘It’s been nice seeing everyone together again and enjoying each other’s company.
‘I would like to say a big thank you to our heating contractor BSW who provided the refreshments and snacks – these went down well, especially the Platinum Jubilee cupcakes!’
Special guests included Cllr Brenda Dacres, Lewisham’s new cabinet member for Housing Development and Planning, and the three Lewisham Mayoresses. Also present were Lewisham Homes chair Ainsley Forbes, CEO Margaret Dodwell, and director of housing and communities Jon Kanareck.
