Christmas may be behind us but the memories of the sheltered housing Christmas Party organised by our Independent Living team are still fresh in the minds of our residents. All 18 of our schemes came together for an afternoon of singing, dancing and lots of festive cheer. A gentleman whom doesn’t usually attend events danced with staff and his daughter, singing along to the music in his own words. He still talks about the day, praising staff for all their hard work and how happy he was to be there.
Our Independent Living Officers were on hand to welcome guests as residents danced and sung along to the likes of UB40, Bob Marley and Frank Sinatra. One resident said “It was so much fun, I haven’t danced like that in years!”, whilst another enjoyed meeting residents from other sites: “It was a wonderful experience to meet up with people from other schemes.”
Residents and friends that had lost touch with each other exchanged numbers to arrange future get-togethers, and as the party was coming to a close the Independent Living Officers got together for an impromptu Christmas song with the residents.
A raffle with the residents was held with the proceeds being donated to the Trussell Trust foodbank that Lewisham Homes residents can access. The Trust sent us a certificate of thanks for our ‘very kind donation’ of £80. We will be holding more inter-scheme events this year to provide entertainment for our residents.
