On Sunday 22 May, we screened a range of short films at the Catford Mews Cinema as part of Lewisham Borough of Culture 2022.
The event was organised by our community relations team, showcasing some of the work Lewisham Homes supports in the borough.
The first set of films were made by local filmmakers Colloquial Collective, each focusing on a different community project involving Lewisham Homes residents. The projects include the Evelyn Community Store; the Sydenham Community Supermarket; Raiders Netball Club on the Honor Oak estate; Rehoboth Lunch Club on the Hazel Grove estate; the Orchard Project; Jerningham Court community garden; plus a film about Sue, a volunteer cook at the Evelyn Community Centre.
You can watch these short films on our YouTube playlist here.
The second set of films shown were made by local young filmmakers through workshops that we support at the Albany. They emerged from two projects: Open Source Collaborations, an arts programme launched in the first lockdown by Foreign Body Productions & The Albany Youth Programme to help emerging artist/film-makers collaborate, form communities and create their first audio-visual pieces; and SceneMakers, a programme for emerging local filmmakers, supporting them financially and with mentoring to create a short film about their local community.
