The Digital Skills for Work Project, a collaboration between Phoenix Housing, London Borough of Lewisham and Lewisham Homes, launched last week (26th September) at the Civic Suite in Catford. There was some great news for us to announce at Lewisham Homes – one of our residents, Nanssi Philippe, has become a Digital Skills Connector, one of the two paid roles on this project!
Nanssi will play an important role, working closely with volunteer Digital Champions to help Lewisham residents looking for work, to develop their digital skills and confidence. Additional employment and training support will be provided by partners to help people develop necessary skills to secure employment they desire. The project will also allow Digital Champions themselves the chance to gain new skills and enhance their CV.
Nanssi spoke at the Launch of the project, mentioning how the programme not only provides skills, but also digital equipment to those who need it: ‘It means this programme can reach all people.’
Phoenix Housing Chief Executive, Jim Ripley, and Margaret Dodwell, Chief Executive of Lewisham Homes, both attended the event and gave speeches about the importance of the project and how it can help residents into better-paying jobs.
Tosin Adewumi, Senior Community Relations Officer, stated how high engagement would allow the project to be even more of a success. ‘The more people use the platform the more we can capture the impact of what we’re doing,’ she said.
