Local children got a chance to have their say about what the former Ladywell leisure centre site should look like last week when pupils from St Mary’s Lewisham primary school attended a consultation event for local residents.
The site is currently occupied by the PLACE/Ladywell temporary structure, but will in future be home to new permanent housing. The development is part of Lewisham Council’s Building for Lewisham programme, a new generation of social homes mainly delivered with Lewisham Homes, the council’s housing company.
Local artist Jake Sherwood and architects from the FCBS firm guided the pupils through a two-stage activity. First they considered what a housing development should look like and which amenities were important to them. Then they created their dream structures in Lego on a 3D map of the local area.
There was also the opportunity for local residents older than school age to have their say. More information about the project, and space to leave your comments, can be found on the project’s Commonplace page. For more on Building for Lewisham, click here or visit the Council’s website.
