Sadiq Khan and Damien Egan were joined by Labour Party leader Keir Starmer to discuss food poverty with Lewisham mayoresses Dawn Atkinson, Natasha Ricketts and Christina Norman.
The award-winning community store, which was created to provide locals on low incomes with affordable groceries, is run by Lewisham Homes’ community relations team in partnership with food poverty charity FareShare and local volunteers.
Sadiq Khan, who has begun his second term as Mayor of London after last week’s elections, visited the Evelyn Community Store on Monday 3 May.
He said: “The team at Lewisham’s Evelyn Community Store show the best of London – providing fresh, nutritious food at an affordable price for local families.”
Lewisham Mayor Damien Egan said: “Was great to be joined by Keir Starmer and Sadiq Khan today to see the incredible work the Lewisham Mayoresses are doing to tackle food poverty across Lewisham.”
