The first council housing built in Lewisham for 30 years is now home to six Lewisham families.
- The homes are the first to be completed by Lewisham Council’s New Homes Better Places programme in partnership with Lewisham Homes.
- New Homes Better Places aims to build 500 council homes over five years.
- The new four three-bedroom and two two-bedroom homes are energy efficient, have private family gardens with bike stores, refuse and composting facilities.
- Lewisham Homes worked with London-based construction company, Rooff Limited to build the new homes on behalf of the Council.

New start: Councillor Damien Egan, new resident Veronica Mighty, Mayor of Lewisham Sir Steve Bullock and Chair of Lewisham Homes Board Julia Cotton stand outside the first council housing built in Lewisham for 30 years.
New resident, Veronica Mighty, said her new home means a lot to her and her young family. Ms Mighty used Council’s Trading Places scheme to move into the new three bedroom house. Ms Mighty said:
Our new home is a 100 percent better for us than where we lived before. The kids love it – I think we will be very happy living here.
Mayor of Lewisham Sir Steve Bullock, visited this week to welcome the new residents. He said:
It is a real delight to welcome our new residents into the first council housing built in a generation. Housing is one of the most important issues for local people and we will provide 625 new homes including 500 council homes by 2018, so this is just the start.
Julia Cotton, resident and Chair of Lewisham Homes Board said:
The new homes have been life changing for six Lewisham families and will also open doors for many others in need of social housing. I’m proud to see Lewisham Homes continuing to lead the way creating new social housing opportunities for local people.
