To improve traffic movement, Lewisham Council are proposing to make Giffin Street one way eastbound for all vehicles, except cyclists. This means you would no longer be able to drive a vehicle westbound towards Deptford High Street.
Why the Council want to make Giffin Street one way
They want to make the town centre:
safer for pedestrians and cyclists
a better place to shop and visit.
Currently, vehicles take a shortcut in the two-way section between Giffin Street and Edward Street. This traffic is not using the high street for shopping, so they want to completely remove the rat run through the high street.
How to find out more about the proposal
You can learn more about the proposal by speaking to the project team on Wednesday 16 January 2019, from 3–7pm, at Deptford Lounge, Giffin Street, SE8 4RJ.

The Council are also going to be installing new lighting installed underneath the railway bridge in Deptford High Street by early February 2019. - Wednesday 30 January 2019
- Thursday 31 January 2019
