More than 20 residents attended a consultation session on Wednesday 8 January to have their say in the design of a new play area and multi-use ball court for the Bampton Estate in Forest Hill.
Residents attending the consultation event were asked to think about the play equipment they would like to see, as well as the colour and design of the ball court, fence and which sports to cater for.
Responses were positive and all present were “excited to be involved in designing their new place to play,” according to Lewisham Homes’ community relations manager Alys Exley-Smith.
“The residents had lots of fantastic ideas and even designed their own ball courts.”
Feedback and suggestions will be shared with architects Levitt Bernstein to see what can be incorporated into the design of the space.
A new block of 39 council homes for residents over 55 years of age will be built on the site of the current court. As stipulated in the planning permission for the new five-storey building, a new facility for play and sports must be in place before the old one is removed.
Work on the new court is due to start in March this year with construction on the block following in summer 2020 and completed in spring 2022. You can view the planning application on Lewisham Council’s planning website.
