On Saturday 11 June, the Evelyn Community Garden had its successful first building day.
During the day, 15 residents joined in the project to help build part of the new community garden on the Evelyn estate.
The project is part funded by both the Mayor of London and our contractor partners Faithorn Farrell Timms, and is a collaboration between Lewisham Homes, the Evelyn tenant and resident association and Sydenham Garden.
The community garden received funding through the Mayors community-led recovery grant scheme, and will focus on engaging often under-represented groups from BAME communities with green spaces and gardening.
Deputy Mayor of Lewisham, Cllr Brenda Dacres also joined the day, and got to work sawing wood for the new planters.
During the day Cllr Dacres said: “The garden is a fantastic space. It’s so good to see Lewisham Homes, Evelyn TRA and Sydenham Garden working together to give the community a space to grow, relax and come together after Covid-19”
The next building day will take place on 26 June between 10am and 3pm on the site behind Magnolia house, just off Evelyn Street. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for more details.
