Next week (18-22 November) is Talk Money Week, a national campaign run by the Money Advice Service. It is an annual celebration of the work thousands of organisations are doing to improve money management across the UK. At Lewisham Homes, we will be holding events in the next few weeks to get residents talking about money, debt, budgeting and identifying bad spending habits.
The goal of the Week is to turn talking about money from one of the UK’s least favourite topics of conversation into something that becomes as natural and familiar as talking about the weather. If all of us take a little time to talk and follow up on our conversations by changing our habits or getting advice, think of the millions of pounds we’ll save, the bad money decisions we’ll avoid and how much better we’ll feel – in just a few days.
Talking openly about money is vitally important for our health, wealth and relationships. Research shows that people who are open about money make better and less risky financial decisions, have stronger personal relationships, help their children form good lifetime money habits and feel less stressed or anxious and more in control. Building money conversations into our everyday lives also helps us build financial confidence and resilience to face whatever the future throws at us.
On Wednesday 27 November, the Money Advice and Pension Service will be attending our engaging and interactive ‘Talk Money’ workshop for practical advice on weekly, fortnightly and monthly budgeting, prioritising debt, and saving money on your household bills. This is a popular course and spaces are limited, so if you’d like to attend please book ahead by emailing the Welfare Benefits Team or calling 0800 028 3 028.
On Tuesday 10 December, we are working with professional recruitment specialist NUCO Solutions to offer residents one to one employment support. We are offering 20 minute slots where you will be provided with one to one CV and recruitment advice from a specialised recruiter. Email the Community Relations team with the subject “CV & Recruitment Advice Workshop” with your full name, contact number and address to book your space.
Both events are taking place at our offices at the Old Town Hall, Catford, SE6 4RU. To find out more about the week, click here.
