Apprenticeships and graduate scheme

Apprentice web

There are apprenticeship opportunities at Lewisham Homes in a variety of roles, from learning a trade such as plumbing or electrical in our repairs team, to providing admin support for our services helping residents. We also work closely with Lewisham Council, which offers a range of construction training options and routes into work. We also have a graduate scheme that recruits ambitious, enthusiastic and motivated graduates every two years.

Apprentices

We are committed to supporting and investing in local young people, and have trained more than 90 apprentices over the past 10 years, with many going on to earn permanent positions in the organisation.

There are opportunities in a range of roles, from learning a trade such as plumbing or electrical in our repairs team, to providing admin support for our services helping residents.

If you are 18 to 24 years old and interested in getting hands-on experience whilst working towards a nationally-recognised qualification, then an apprenticeship with Lewisham Homes could be just what you’re looking for.

To find out more and discover the current apprenticeships available, visit Lewisham Council’s website.

Graduates

Every two years we recruit ambitious, enthusiastic and motivated graduates to join us on a 24-month placement. The programme is designed to deliver a broad range of development opportunities, experience, and support.

Previous graduates have worked in a range of teams including Housing, Development, Finance and ICT, and many have been successful in gaining permanent employment with us.

To be eligible, you need a 2:1 degree and three A Levels at grade C or above, or equivalent.

For full details and how to apply visit our vacancies page.

“I started in September 2016 in the Responsive Repairs department, the work was really good and varied as one day I could be out on site meetings with contractors and another day in the office organising building works to be carried out.

I then moved to the Development team where I am learning to project manage new build developments. This is a new, challenging and exciting part of the organisation, and a great area to learn and develop skills.

One of the best perks about being a graduate at Lewisham Homes is the shadowing opportunities. The programme gives graduates the freedom to be proactive with their own learning and development.”

Nnamdi Ulu (Development Assistant)

“My placement year at Lewisham Homes allowed me to gain an insight into the industry and develop my professional skills in a way which is not possible at university alone.

I worked as a Trainee Building Surveyor in the Professional Services Team, assisting RICS Building Surveyors on large construction projects and managing smaller projects with support from the rest of the team.

This gave me the opportunity to gain experience in all of the RICS competencies for the Building Surveying APC pathway; achieving at least level 1 and approaching level 2 in my log book.”

Connor McCaig (Trainee Building Surveyor)

“The biggest benefit about being a graduate in Lewisham Homes is you have the freedom to shadow other teams and meet different levels of individuals from the organisation.

My personal development was supported and I have been sponsored for my accounting qualification and  received valuable training on workplace skills.

I have enjoyed working at Lewisham Homes and meeting supportive individuals, as well as participating in activities run by staff such as netball and charity events.”

Banusha Jeyakumar (Finance Graduate)
