Types of jobs a handyperson can help with

  • Small plumbing repairs
  • General carpentry
  • Moving furniture for easier access
  • Fitting grab rails, hand rails and curtain rails
  • Changing tap washers
  • Changing light bulbs
  • Minor adjustments to wooden doors and windows
  • Making safe trip hazards
  • Fitting and testing battery operated smoke alarms and bells

There is no limit to the number of times you can access this service. During periods of high demand, we give priority to people who are being discharged from hospital.

What a handyperson can’t help with

We cannot carry out decorating, gardening, any kind of gas work, electrical wiring, external/communal work or general domestic tasks. We are unable to assist with major disabled adaptations, you will need to contact Lewisham Council’s Occupational Therapy Service for assistance.

Our handypersons

Handypersons are skilled and experienced tradesmen with their own vans and tools. They already have their own parking permits so there is no need to arrange a permit, unless you are in a new development that provides their own permits.

They will show you their Lewisham Homes identification badge which you should always check before letting them into your property. When you book an appointment, we will tell you the date and time of the visit, this will also be confirmed in writing, by text or email. You will always be notified if these details change. We can also set up a security password which the handyperson can use when they call to your property.
